The Secret to Long-Term Results: Actually Liking What You Do
Jul 04, 2025
Let’s make this simple.
The easiest way to stick to a workout routine?
Do forms of exercise you actually enjoy.
The easiest way to stick to a diet?
Eat foods you actually enjoy (in controlled amounts!)
Yet most people try to white-knuckle their way through training plans they hate and meal plans that feel like punishment.
Then they wonder why they can’t stay consistent.
Fitness doesn’t have to be miserable
You don’t burn more fat because you hated the workout you did.
You don’t magically get leaner by eating bland, boring meals 6 times a day.
In fact, when you hate the process, you’re way more likely to quit.
That’s the real problem.
Not your macros.
Not your cardio.
Not your “willpower.”
What you actually need for results
Consistency.
That’s pretty much it.
And consistency comes from building a plan that you’ll stick to, not one that looks perfect on paper but falls apart after 3 weeks.

- Hate running? Try biking or incline walking.
- Hate lifting 6 days a week? Try 2–3 full-body sessions instead.
- Can’t stand chicken and broccoli? Good. Neither can anyone else.
Make meals that hit your macros and taste good.
And please understand this: In most cases, just because you are bad at something or hate something doesn't mean it's good for you to do it.
Or that you "need" to do it.
You likely don't need to "work on your weaknesses."
Obviously, if you are competing in something, this holds true. Or if you have a weakness that is keeping you from achieving a goal, sure, work on it.
But if you hate running, don't run.
If you hate deadlifting, don't deadlift.
Seriously.
There are plenty of other things you can do.
There’s no one “right” way to train or eat.
There’s only what works, and what you’ll keep doing.
Make it sustainable or don’t bother
Every time you start a plan that relies on motivation and willpower instead of enjoyment, you’ve already lost.
The best plan is the one you’ll do when life gets busy.
The one you’ll follow when you’re tired.
The one that doesn’t feel like punishment every single day.
That’s how you build a body that lasts.
Here’s what to do instead:
- Build your routine around exercises you like (or at least don’t dread).
- Eat meals that taste good, not just ones that “fit the plan.”
- Stop copying what shredded influencers do if it makes you miserable.
- Remember that adherence always beats perfection.
Final word
If your entire plan depends on suffering, discipline, and mental gymnastics to stick with it…
You’re not building a lifestyle.
You’re just setting up another cycle of burnout.
Find what you enjoy and do it consistently.
That’s the real formula.
